Punjab & Sind Bank Delhi beat CAG Delhi by 5-1, enter league

CHANDIGARH:Punjab and Sind Bank Delhi edged out CAG Delhi by beating by 5-1 in the 36th Indian Oil Servo Surjit Hockey Tournament at Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium in Jalandhar here this evening.

In other match Punjab National Bank Delhi beat Indian Air Force Delhi by solitary goal to enter the next round of knock out stage.

Earlier Cabinet Minister Punjab Vijay Inder Singla inaugurated the tournament. Olympian Parqat Singh MLA presided over the inaugural function.

In inaugural match Punjab and Sind Bank dominated the proceeding from the start but not able to capitalize. In the 15th minute of the first quarter CAG’s Imran Khan (Jr) netted the ball to get lead (1-0).

In the second quarter’s 22nd minute equalizer for Bank comes from the stick of Varinder Singh from the pass of Prince (1-1). At half time both teams were locked at 1-1.

In third quarter Bank mounted pressure. In 35th minute Bank’s Prince converted a penalty corner to get lead (2-1). In 38th minute Jaskaran Singh consolidated for Bank )3-1). In 49th minute Ranjodh Singh scored field goal for Bank (4-1). Bank’s Gaganpreet Singh converted a penalty corner (5-1) to complete the score sheet in the 57th minute.. .

Earlier in first match Indian Air Force gave tough fight to Punjab National Bank but Bank’s Goal keeper Jasbeer Singh made some good saves. For Bank solitary goal scored by Vishal Antil in the 26th minute of the play with penalty corner conversion (1-0).
