HAMRIPUR: Though the BJP convincingly won the 2017 state assembly yet its chief minister candidate Prem Kumar Dhumal lost from the Sujanpur assembly segment that falls under Hamirpur Parliamentary constituency from where his son Anurag Thakur is testing his luck fourth time. He is also to cover this lost ground too to ensure his victory. The father-son duo is not wasting any opportunity to reply in the same coin to Rajinder Rana who defeated Prem Kumar Dhumal. Both are trying to woo the voters and trying to gain sympathy from the surprise defeat.
While talking to the different people of the Sujanpur segment it appeared that voters were regretting for their choice they made. If we have made our choice otherwise, Prem Kumar Dhumal would have been chief minister, said Deepak Sharma, a student. “We have not only lost the chief ministership but also we are facing a lot of problems in getting our works done,” said Santosh Kumari and added now they have to knock at the door of Dhumals for any work. But people said this time they would not repeat the ‘mistake.’
Not only the voters of the segment but also Prem Kumar Dhumal shocked and shaken by the defeat, said Vijay Behl of Tauni Devi and he was confident that voters would not want to lose any more. On the other, Mr Dhumal admitted his own complacence that time but this he was seemed fully geared up for the kill. He said that voters have lost a lot and now they did not want to lose any more. Voters would vote wholeheartedly and ensured win for his son with big margin.
Mr Dhumal has also revealed that defeat was unexpected for him but he decided to go back to each booth of the constituency. During his meeting with the people he found that people were repenting over their choice and he had also felt that he should concentrate more in Sujanpur which he has served many years. With the announcement of Lok Sabha elections, he added, visited each of his 104 booths. It is also said that if Anurag Thakur won again then he would be a contender for ministerial berth in central government cabinet.
There is overwhelming sentiments across the constituency in favour of Anurag Thakur despite inter-party tension. Most of the people admitted that this term of Anurag has been more fruitful compared to other two terms. He has brought much awaited rail line from Una to Hamirpur on track. His initiative in providing health care at the doorsteps of the people of his constituency proved to be a boon. His efforts to raise sporting standards in the state, incentivizing budding talent and drawing them to the field of sports under “Khelo India’ project coupled with enthusiasm for Narendra Modi negated the disappointment.
