Stop daydreaming, says Capt Amarinder to Sukhbir after SAD chief’s talk of forming next govt in Punjab

CHANDIAGRH: Deriding Sukhbir Singh Badal’s efforts to turn the Lok Sabha elections into a battle for supremacy in the state, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Friday urged the SAD president to stop daydreaming of getting back into the seat of power in the state, saying the people would throw the Akalis out much before the 2022 Assembly polls.

Captain Amarinder Singh was reacting to Sukhbir’s reported comments, in his public rallies, that SAD would form the next government in the state.

The Chief Minister termed as laughable Sukhbir’s attempts to use the LS poll platform to pitch for the 2022 Assembly polls by trying to remind the people of the non-existence development works he claimed to have been done during the previous SAD-BJP government.

Not only was Sukhbir clearly daydreaming and indulging in a bout of wishful thinking, he was actually inviting trouble for himself and the SAD by reminding the people of the Badals’ last term, which Punjab wanted to forget as a dark chapter in the state’s life, said Captain Amarinder. Sukhbir should actually wish and pray that the people do not remember the previous Akali rule, because any reminder of that grim period only brings back memories of the sufferings, victimization, and harassment they suffered at the hands of the Badals and their goones, he added.

Captain Amarinder Singh said if Sukhbir had any sense, he would be hoping that the people forget the devastation wreaked by the Akalis on the state during their rule. He should be wishing that people wipe out their memories of all those mafias that ruled the state under their regime, the drugs menace that destroyed their children, the outflow of industry from the state, the widespread unemployment and the suicides by farmers, said the Chief Minister.

Sukhbir, said Captain Amarinder, would be better off not reminding the people of Bargari and other sacrilege incidents with which the Akalis tried to divide the state in their desperate bid to come back to power, and the firing on innocent protestors in Behbal Kalan and Kotkapura.

“I always knew Sukhbir was a fool but he is obviously a bigger fool than I had realized. He is actually going around reminding people of the endless crimes perpetrated on them by the SAD-BJP government,” said the Chief Minister.

The desperate attempt to shift the focus to 2022 also showed that the Akalis had read the writing on the wall for these Lok Sabha walls, in which the SAD was all set to be completely decimated, he added.
