Startup Punjab inks MoU with IIT Ropar to give impetus to enterpreneurship

CHANDIGARH: The ‘Startup Punjab’ on Friday signed a MoU with IIT Ropar in line with its vision to foster entrepreneurship in Punjab. Both will jointly work towards facilitating young students in educational institutes and early-stage startups to crystallize ideas and grow their businesses.

The MoU was signed by Executive Director Startup Punjab Ashooneet Kaur and Coordinator IIT Ropar-Technology Business Incubator Foundation Dr Harpreet  Singh.

Disclosing this here today a Spokesperson of the Invest Punjab, this collaboration would prove to be instrumental in offering incredible opportunities to the youth of Punjab, who exhibit entrepreneurial acumen by providing them the requisite support and access to an ecosystem which nurtures their growth. Startup Punjab and IIT Ropar will hold ideation workshops, acceleration programmes and hackathons to enable Startups to grow their ideas. IIT Ropar would also provide pre-incubation support such as product development, financial management and distribution/marketing strategies to startups selected through the Startup Punjab Yatra and other events, he added.

The Punjab Government through the ‘Startup Punjab’ cell is building an effective startup ecosystem in the State to bolster the entrepreneurial culture in the State. This initiative would also provide a platform to facilitate capability building via mentors to help the budding entrepreneurs to position their products in the market, enabling access to incubation centres and connecting them to investment agencies, he added.  

The ‘Startup Punjab Hub’ is set to launch at STPI Mohali on September 30, which would offer an innovative ecosystem of incubation facilities, R&D labs and angel investor networks to facilitate entrepreneurs to scale their ventures. Furthermore, The Startup Punjab cell is also partnering with Chandigarh Angels Network to host the 3rd edition of CANNABLE, an event which will bring over 500 entrepreneurs and 40 investors on a common platform to give a boost to the entrepreneurs of Punjab, in the month of October, added spokesperson.
