Punjab Vigilance nabs SHO, head constable in bribery case

CHANDIGARH: Punjab Vigilance Bureau nabbed a police Inspector and Head Constable (HC) posted at Phase 1 police station, SAS Nagar district red handed while accepting bribe of Rs. 30,000/-.

Disclosing this here an official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said SHO Jasveer Singh and Head Constable Raj Kumar were nabbed red handed on the complaint of Dev Raj of village Badmajra, SAS Nagar district. The complainant has approached the VB and informed that the accused Inspector and his reader (HC) were demanding Rs. 50,000 for not registering criminal case against his son and the deal was struck at Rs. 30,000.

After verifying his information, the Vigilance team laid a trap and the accused Inspector and Head constable were arrested on the spot while accepting bribe of Rs. 30,000/- from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses

He informed that a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at VB police station SAS Nagar and further investigation was under progress.

Meanwhile SSP Mohali H.S.Bhullar has warned the police officials of strict action if any complaint of corruption is received against them. He said that he would not tolerate corruption in police.He said that SHO and head constable arrested by vigilance department have been suspended.
