Punjab police IG Paramjaj Singh Umrananagal arrested in Behbal Kalan firing case

CHANDIGARH: The Special Investigating Team(SIT) of Punjab Police formed to investigate case of Behbal Kalan firing on Sikh protesters in 2015 today arrested Paramraj Singh Umrananagal Inspector General of Police from Chandigarh.

This is second arrest by Police after Charanjit Singh Sharma former SSP Moga who is now in the judicial custody. Umranangal who was IGP of Ludhiana range at the time of incident was summoned by the SIT for questioning a few days back along with the then IGP Faridkot Jatinder Jain. SIT had questioned both the police officers about their role in the incident and who ordered police firing in which two Sikh youth were killed.

The SIT was formed to investigate the role of police officers on the recommendations of Justice(Retd) Ranjit Singh Commission. The police had registered FIR against four policemen including Charanjit Singh Sharma. The name of Umranangal cropped up during interrogation of Sharma.

Umranangal was today called to police headquarter here where he was detained by the police.He was blue eyed boy of former Deputy CM and SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal.

Umranangal was earlier in 2014 questioned by Enforcement Directorate in connection with supply iof synthetic drugs.
