Punjab govt reduces retrement age of its employees from 60 to 58 years

CHANDIGARH: Capt Amarinder Singh government in Punjab today reverted the decision of previous SAD-BJP government decision of granting two years extension after retitrement and announced to reduce the retirement age to 58, effecting thousands of employees.

Punjab Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal while presenting the budget for 2020-21 made this announcement. He said that government decision to reduce the age to 58 years will pave way for new recruitment in the government thus benefitting hundereds of unemployed youth. He said that fiscal health of Punjab government has improved and governemnt would now offer new jobs.

Finance Minister also announced that Capt Amarinder Singh government has decided to implement report of sixth pay commission from this year and 6 percent pending dearness allowance of employees will also be paid from March 2020. Manpreet Badal announced that education in government schools will be made free till 12th class and free conveyance will be provided to primary school children. He said that provision of Rs.10 crore has been made in the budget. He also announced to reduce the Mandi fee from 4 to one percent.
