Punjab govt appeals farmers to bring dry wheat to Mandis

CHANDIGARH: In view of recent rains in Punjab resulting in increased moisture level in wheat grains, the Punjab Government appealed to the farmers to bring only the properly dried wheat in the mandis so that hassle free procurement of wheat could be ensured.

Disclosing this here today, a spokesperson of Agriculture Department said that govt. has made elaborate arrangements for procurement of entire wheat during current Rabi marketing season. The farmers have been advised to harvest fully ripened crop to ensure that the moisture level of the wheat grain should not be more than 12% as fixed by Food Corporation of India (FCI) so that farmers have not to wait in mandis.

The govt. had also made extensive plan to procure 132 lac MT of wheat for which arrangements of bardana, storage space and cash credit limit have already been made. The state government directed all the staff of procurement agencies and mandi board  to ensure that farmers do not face any difficulty in the mandis during the course of procurement operation.
