Power engineers remember Harbans Singh former PSEB Chairman

CHANDIGARH: All India Power Engineers Federation today remembers its founder-chairman Harbans Singh on his 100th birth anniversary for his contribution to the Indian power sector.

He was the first power engineer in the country to head a state electricity board. Paramjit Singh a retired Chief Engineer said that Punjab also owes the gratitude to him for the perception, planning, and execution of  Guru Nanak Thermal Plant at Bathinda, much against the wishes of the Centre.

The project was completed in record time against all odds. He presented the state case regarding Bhakra Dam to the late Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and convinced him of the feasibility of the project.

He remained associated with Planning Commission throughout his career. V K Gupta Spokesperson AIPEF said that the  constitution of the  Federation was his  brain  child,   a professional organization for the improvement of the power supply situation in the country and to simultaneously safeguard the interests  of the power engineers’ fraternity.

 Virinder Singh former Member PSERC paid his  tributes  to him saying, "He suffered himself for the cause  of power engineers and shall remain ever alive in the memory of power engineers.
