Khet Mazdoors stage dharna in Nurmahal for plots, pensions

NURMAHAL: Activists, including women of Pendu  Mazdoor Union on Thursday, staged a dharna in front of the office of sub-registrar here for their demands.

Raising slogans against the Congress government they demanded residential plots, blue cards, full-year employment with Rs 500 daily wage under MNREGA, Rs 3000 pension for widows and handicapped, improvement in the public distribution system. They demanded that black law passed to suppress their struggles should be revoked and loans should be waived. They said that micro-finance companies are looting women which should be stopped and rural poor should be made members of cooperative societies with any conditions.
Addressing a protest rally leaders Hans Raj Pabwan  and others said the Congress government has failed to fulfill its promises made during the run-up to assembly election to give residential plots to village poor. They said that struggle for plots and other demands would continue and be intensified. A memorandum of demands was submitted.

Unidentified booked for brewing, three arrested for selling illicit country made liquor
NAKODAR: The Shahkot Pur police have booked an unidentified villager and arrested one villager on the charge brewing and selling of illicit country-made liquor.
Station house officer (SHO) Surinder Kumar said that 9 bottles of illicit liquor, 400 kilograms lahann(raw liquor), and utensils for brewing were recovered from the cremation ground of Jafar Pur village and arrested Joginder Singh of Chak Hathianna village with 9   bottles of illicit country-made liquor.
SHO said that cases under section 61/1/14 of the Excise Act have been registered against the accused.
The Nakodar city police arrested Vicky of Malarri village with 7 bottles of hooch said investigating officer Jaswinder Singh.
The Mehat Pur police arrested Avtar Singh of Mehsam Pur village with 9 bottles of hooch aid investigating Officer Narinder Singh.

Three arrested for stealing trolley

NAKODAR: The Mehat Pur police have arrested three persons on the charge of stealing a trolley.
The investigating officer (IO) Tarlochan Singh said that the accused have been identified as  Rajat and Sodhi residents of Raharrwan village under Dharam Kot police station and Sukhvir Singh a resident of Manjali village under Dharam Kot police station.Buta Singh a resident of Rai Pur Gujran village complained to the police that the accused stolen his trolley on August 10 night.IO said that a case under sections 379(theft) and 34(committing a crime with common intention) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the accused.


Two truck drivers arrested with stolen wheat bags
SHAHKOT: The Shahkot police have arrested two truck drivers with stolen wheat bags.The investigating officer(IO) Sarabjit Singh said that the accused have been identified as Ravindar Singh a resident of Makhu in Feroze Pur and Mangat Singh a resident of Talwandi Nipala in Feroze Pur.
IO said that the police has received information that the accused are heading to Makhu with stolen wheat from Shahkot and were intercepted at a Naka at Gidarr Pindi and recovered from their possession 47 bags (weighing 50.700 kg each) of wheat loaded in a truck (HR-67-A-0527).
IO said that a case under sections 379(theft) and 411(dishonestly receiving stolen property) of the IPC has been registered against the accused.
