High Court bans firecrackers in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh except for Diwali day

CHANDIGARH: Punjab and Haryana High Court today banned firecrackers in Punjab, Haryana and Uinion Terrotiry of Chandigarh with the onoly relaxation of two and half hours from 6.30 to 9 PM on Diweali Day, October 19.

The High Court decision followed orders of Supreme Court banning firecrackers in Delhi and NCR area. The SC decision was taken in wake of huigh level of smoke pollution in Delhi. High Court has also taken up the suo moto notive of polution caused by firecrackers. The order was made by the bench of Justice Ajay Kumar Mittal and Justice Amit Rawal.

The High Court has also directed the district administration in two states and to allot the licences to sell firecrackers by draw of lots.
