CHANDIGARH: Special Investigating Team(SIT) formed to investigate Behbal Kalan firing incident has summoned former Punjab DGP Sumedh Singh Saini to appear before it on February 25 to join investigation.

The SIT had last week arrested Paramraj Singh Umrananagal Inspector General of Police in the same case. Umrananagal is sent on four days police remand. His arreste was made on the basis of interogation of former Moga SSP Charanjit Singh Sharma who was also arrested. SIT headed by IGP Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh is investigating who ordered firing on the Sikh protestors, killing two Sikh youth. The Sikhs were sitting on dharna in protest against sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib.

Sumedh Singh Saini was DGP of Punjab Police at that time who allegedly ordered to open fire on protesting Sikhs. SIT is trying to find out who ordered DGP to take the action. Sumedh Singh Saini had talked to Punjab Chief Minister before the police action. Justice Ranjit Singh Commission had also summoned Saini but he didnt appear before it. Saini has described the arrest of police officers politically motivated.

Menawhile, former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today appeared in Chandigarh before media and offered to DGP Dinkar Gupta to arrest him. He said that SIT investigation was aimed to arrest him. He said that there was no need to waste time and money on investigation, he is ready to go to jail.

During assembly election campaigning, the Congress and other opposition parties had blamed Badal for not taking action against accused of sacrilege of Guru Grnath Sahib and protecting the police officers who opened fire on Sikhs. SAD had lost the elections and confined to only 14 seats in 117 member assembly.
