Congress misleading farmers on ordinances on farming: RMS Chhina

PUNJABNEWSEXPRESS | July 09, 2020 04:57 PM

AMRITSAR:Senior BJP leader Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina today lashed out at the ruling Congress in Punjab for misleading the farmers on recent ordinances passed by the Central Government. He said the amendments in the laws will bring revolution in the farming but all for narrow political gains the Congress was opposing the move by the Modi government.

In a hard hitting press statement issued here, Chhina said the Congress was unleashing a `misinformation’ on the Ordinances which were announced in the interest of the farming. ``We need to amend age old laws which prohibit the farmers to market their produce in the open to the highest bidder ”, said he adding that the MSP will remain intact but the Congress is resorting to falsehood that the MSP is being done away with.

The minimum support price (MSP) is not being discontinued. Farmers need not worry as the MSP will stay as in the past and the market committees will also keep functioning”, said Chhina adding that the noted agriculture economist Dr. SS Johal has recently expressed his views on the three Ordinances in which he has supported the move which he termed as favourable to the farmers.

Chhina said ruling Congress was resorting to double speak. ``The Punjab government under captain Amarinder Singh has already made amendments in Mandi Act in 2017 but when it comes to Centre, he and his leaders are speaking other language”, said he adding that the BJP has already been reaching out to the farmers directly to apprise them about the new ordinances.

Chhina also reminded the Congress that it was under UPA that similar amendments were proposed but they failed to implement the Swaminathan Report. ``The BJP not only implemented Swaminathan report on agriculture but has brought forth the huge plan to reform the agriculture sector to help bring out the farming out from the crisis”, said he adding that Congress in larger interest must stop the false propaganda on the issue.
