Refrain from using loudspealers from 10 pm to 6 am : Dc exhorts residents

JALANDHAR:Holds meeting with stakeholders to sendsitize against noise pollution..Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar  Varinder Kumar Sharma today exhorted the residents of city to adhere by the guidelines of Court for not using loudspeakers during 10 pm to 6 am.

Chairing a meeting here today at the District Administrative Complex with the various stake holders, the Deputy Commissioner said that as per the guidelines of the hon’ble court the loudspeakers must not be used during the prohibited hours. He said that it was the need of hour to ensure that noise pollution was checked on one hand and inconvenience to General public on the other. Mr. Sharma said that noise pollution was very hazardous for the human health and it needs to be checked immediately.

The Deputy Commissioner said that the even when the sound/ loudspeakers were to be used, except the prohibited hours, it must be less than 10 decibel at public places and less than five decibels at the private places. He said that if the rules were violated then the district administration, Police and Punjab Pollution Control Board would be forced to take strict action against the violators. Mr. Sharma said that as per the directions of the Court and State government the action could be initiated against the violators under section 144 of the CRPC and 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The Deputy Commissioner asked the Punjab Pollution Control Board to embark a special drive to check the noise pollution. Likewise, he said that the Police department would also hold regular meetings at the Station House Officer (SHO) level to make the people aware about the serious effects of the sound pollution. Mr. Sharma asked the people to support the district administration for checking this nuisance, which was causing a huge inconvenience to the general public.

On the occasion Additional Deputy Commissioner  Jasbir Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police Arun Saini, Sub Divisional Magistrates  Amit Kumar,  Rahul Sindu and  Vineet Kumar besides others were also present.
