JALANDHAR:A meeting of Punjab Unaided Technical Institutions Association (PUTIA), Punjab Unaided Colleges Association (PUCA) and Polytechnic Association was held today in Chandigarh.

Later the delegation also met Sh. Anurag Verma, IAS, Principal Secretary, Technical Education under the leadership of Sh. Ashwani Sekhri, Chairman, Joint Action Committee (JAC). Dr. G.S Dhaliwal, President, PUTIA; Dr. Anshu Kataria, President, PUCA; S. Rajinder Dhanoa, Polytechnic Association expressed concern on the shifting of Examination centres by the Punjab State Board of Technical Education & Industrial Training  (PSBTE & IT).

Dr. Anshu Kataria while speaking said that 15, 000-20, 000 students studying in around 70 polytechnic colleges across Punjab are affected with this decision of board for shifting their exam centres to far-flung areas at the last minute.

Dr. G.S Dhaliwal said that due to this decision by the Board, students have to travel 20-30 kms extra to give their exams. The majority of the students belongs to SC category and commute on local buses with daily bus pass service. But it won't be possible for them to afford the bus tickets for distant places to reach far away exam centres. In winters, dense fog and security would be the main issue, especially for the girl students.

Verma assured to look into the matter and the best decision would be taken in the interest of the students. Verma also cleared that in technical education institutions no cheating would be allowed or tolerated in Punjab.
