Travel to Dehradun, Mussoorie and Dhanaulti

March 26, 2019 03:58 PM

It was the eve of our friend's birthday, and we decided to take him on a weekend getaway. There were four of us planning to go on this trip. After long discussions and debates, we chose to travel through Dehradun, Mussoorie and Dhanaulti. We booked a hotel in the business and shopping hub of Dehradun, Rajpur road 30 km from the airport. We planned to make it a road trip once we reach Dehradun.

So, we had to book a top-rated taxi from Dehradun to Mussoorie. We did some research online to find our perfect cab. We zeroed in on a vendor, considering the great reviews and the many positive features such as the zero cancellation fee. We contacted them and discussed our itinerary with their representative. The representative helped us with a suitable package and a driver well-suited for our needs.

Overview and Daily Activities

We took a flight from Delhi to Dehradun and reached Dehradun by night. After a short cab ride from the airport, we rested through the night at a hotel.

Next day morning, by the time we had our breakfast, our taxi arrived at the hotel. I spoke to the driver about our itinerary and made sure everything was as planned. The car was in excellent condition and very neat. Without delay, we started our journey to the first destination, Buddha temple, Dehradun.

It was a 40-minute journey from the hotel to the Buddha Temple. Located in Clement Town, the temple has a Buddhist edifice and is surrounded by scenic beauty that mesmerises everyone. Considered to be the biggest Buddhist reliquary in Asia, the place is full of beautiful ornate paintings and serene ambience. We spent some time there enjoying the relaxing vibe of the place. Later, we left for the next destination, Robber's Cave.

The journey to Robber's cave was approximately 1 hour long. We had our lunch in a restaurant on the way. With the river water flowing from the middle of the cave, the place was an absolute marvel made by nature. The local people explained to us that it was the home of Lord Shiva. It is located on the way to Mussoorie.

40 Minutes from there, we reached Sahastradhara, a waterfall popular for its elastic beauty. The water here is sulphur-rich, making therapeutic. We spend some time in one of the many water pools here. Surrounded by rich Himalayan vegetation, the place has rejuvenating ambience. Our driver had explained that the meaning of Sahastradhara is 'thousand-fold spring'. The place looked hundred per cent truthful to its name. After a blissful evening there, we continued our journey to Mussoorie.

We reached Mussoorie by 8.00 at night, the journey was around 1 hour and 15 minutes long. We had booked our hotel near Sanjha Durbar Temple. After dinner, we cut a cake and celebrated our friend's birthday. Our small party was over very soon, and we slept very well.

The next day, we started our journey early. Our first destination was the Kempty Waterfall. It was 12 km away from our hotel. The 40 feet high waterfall surrounded by high mountain cliffs was an amazing sight to witness. We spent some time in the pond formed at the bottom of the fall. By noon, we left from there.

We started our journey to Dhanaulti after lunch. On the way, we visited the Landour Clock Tower. The Gun hill Point was our another stop en route. This viewpoint gave us a panoramic view of the snow-capped Himalayan ranges next to the widespread Doon Valley. We reached Dhanaulti by 6 in the evening.

We spent our evening at the hotel resting along with our chit chats. The night was restful, and we had a great sleep. At the morning, after breakfast, we headed to the Surkhanda Devi Temple. We had an adventurous trek from Kaddu Khal village.  It was noon when we finally completed the visit.

It was our last destination of the trip. After a light shopping form the street market, we left for Dehradun Airport. The whole journey was surrounded by scenic views and comforting weather.
