Punjab all set to achieve wheat procurement target

CHANDIGARH : Punjab is successfully marching ahead to achieve the target of 132 Lac Metric Tonne procurement of wheat crop during current Rabi Marketing Season as it had already touched procurement figure of 127.81 LMT till Thursday.

According to a spokesperson of the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department, out of aforesaid procured Wheat, 126.40 LMT had been purchased by the State Procurement Agencies and 1.41 LMT by the private traders against a total arrival of 127.85 LMT in mandis across the state till May 16, 2019.

Referring to the lifting of procured Wheat, the spokesperson pointed out that 111.56 LMT (88%) had already been lifted and the district officials had been instructed to ensure speedy lifting of Wheat from the mandis. During last year till May 16, out of total 126.31 LMT procured wheat, 125.76 LMT was purchased by State Agencies while 0.55 LMT by the private traders.

Briefing about region wise procurement, the spokesperson revealed that 13.74 LMT, 18.80 LMT and 95.27 LMT had been purchased in Doaba, Majha and Malwa respectively out of the total arrival of 13.74 LMT, 18.81 LMT and 95.30 LMT in these regions. As many as 8.09 lakh farmers in the state have been benefitted from the procurement of wheat comprising 1.20, 0.94 and 5.95 lac farmers in Doaba, Majha and Malwa respectively.

Pertinently, the Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh is constantly reviewing the procurement operation and had given directives to the officials of the Food and Civil Supplies department besides the Heads of procurement agencies to ensure hassle-free completion of wheat procurement during RMS 2019-20.
