Vet Varsity takes initiative to develop entrepreneurship skills in students

LUDHIANA: Department of Livestock Production Management of Guru AngadDev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana starteda business skill model under the title of "Livestock Business Skill Development- Incubation Units" for the Veterinary Students with the objective to impart hands on training to inculcate entrepreneurship in Poultry Farming in the budding scientists/students.

Dr.Amarjit Singh Nanda, Vice-Chancellor of Varsity inaugurated this project in the presence of Deans and Directors of the university. On this occasion Dr. A L Saini, HoD said that in this program department of LPM will provide infrastructure and facilities over logistic support in the form of 1500 broiler chicks, feed and other facilities. However, the students will be performing all types of activities like feeding, watering, health, procurement and marketing under the guidance of an expert from the department. This process will continue for 6 weeks and the profit from unit will be shared by the students. After that a new batch will undergo the similar type of training. This project can be implemented on large scale for broilers and layers.

The central and state government agencies will be requested to partially finance such project proposals which will impart practical training and will be very beneficial for new entrepreneurs. He said that this type of practical experience will also beneficial to teach the young farmers and rural house wives to start their own ventures.

Dr. A.S. Nanda appreciated the efforts of the department and students of the first batch namely Raman Vohra, GurjotMavi, RashmiSaggar, Kulvinder Singh Sandhu, AnkushProch, RohiniBhardwaj, SutrishnaBasu and scheme In-charge Dr. Yashpal Singh for taking such initiative which will go a long way to enhance the confidence of the young entrepreneurs. Dr Nanda said that students will learn a lot from this type of projects. It will give them immense experience of practical learning. They will face the existing teething troubles and hard truth of field difficulties. He was of the opinion that university may replicate this type of training to the interested entrepreneurs in other fields of animal husbandry also.
