International Experts of MSD Animal Health Visit Vet Varsity for Scientific Collaboration

LUDHIANA: A brain storming interaction between Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana scientists and international Experts of MSD Animal Health led by Dr Tom Strydom, Regional Technical Director, Parasitic Control and Dr Griff Dalgleish, Director Ruminant Marketing, Asia Pacific along with the senior officials of the MSD in India was held.

The discussion was organized to discuss research collaboration regarding the existing challenges faced by the livestock sector due to external and internal parasites causing huge economic losses to the farmers. Dr SNS Randhawa, Director of Research, GADVASU, apprised the global experts of MSD about the research, clinical facilities and infrastructure available at the university and close interaction with the developmental departments of the state and livestock farmers through various extension programs. He also emphasized on the scientific capabilities of university scientists in developing new technologies for promoting animal health and welfare. The faculty members of Department of Veterinary Parasitology imparted the experts about extensive research work undertaken regarding the prevalent tick species of dairy animals, mapping of tick resistance to acaricides in dairy animals of Punjab.

The MSD delegations was also described about the various research methodologies standardized to detect the acaricide resistance against commonly used acaricides and epidemiological status of common endoparasitic diseases of livestock and pet animals. Faculty members of Department of Veterinary Medicine also interacted with the MSD experts regarding the use and resistance to various antiparasitic compounds available in India. The major emphasis was about the need for integrated approach for tick control. The MSD experts expressed their desire to have a long term collaboration and mutual cooperation with the university especially in areas of ectoparasitic control.

International scientists along with the senior officials MSD led by Dr. Dinesh Rawat Singh concluded that it was indeed a great interaction which has given them enough confidence about GADVASU‘s unparalleled scientific capabilities. On the basis of the scientific strength of university, they were confident that MSD and GADVASU will crystalize areas of mutual cooperation especially in areas of Ecto-Parasitic control in livestock. This mutual collaboration will be very beneficial to control parasitic problems in dairy animals he added.
