Two-day International Conference on Innovations in Computing Commences at CGC Landran

MOHALI: A two-day International Conference on Innovations in Computing (ICIC-2018) was inaugurated at Chandigarh Group of Colleges (CGC) Landran, today. Organised by the Department of Computer Science & Engineering the conference brought together a bevy of distinguished researchers, academicians and international delegates on one platform.
ICIC-2018 seeks to find new possibilities in the field of Engineering and Technology specially focused on computing as also finding new trends and techniques of Computing for wider application. The conference would also see discussions pertaining to latest advancements in the field in addition to key research topics comprising mobile computing, cloud computing, data mining, big data and analytics, image processing, networks and others.
Dr. Lovneesh Chanana, Vice President, Govt. Relations, SAP India, the Chief Guest, inaugurated the session. Dr. H.K. Sardana, Chief Scientist, CSIR-CSIO, Mohali, was the Guest of Honour. Dr. Chanana enlightened the gathering on ‘Accelerating value creation through intelligent technologies’, covering key aspects like data privacy, cyber security, data protection law among others. He underlined, among other points, the importance and requirement of continuous skill up-gradation in existing and budding professionals of the field which would enable them to add more value to their fields study and profession. Dr. H.K Sardana gave an introductory talk on ‘Computational Intelligence-Future Perspectives.’

Day one of the conference witnessed keynote addresses by Dr. Florin Popentiu, University Politehnica of Bucharest, Romania and Dr. Oscar Castillo, Professor, Tijuana Institute of Technology, Tijuana, Mexico, in the first session. While Dr. Popentiu enlightened the delegates on the subject of ‘Computational Intelligence Models for Software Intensive Systems’, Dr. Castillo, gave an insight on ‘Nature Inspired Optimization of Type 2 Fuzzy Logic Controllers.’
The second session saw Dr. Dharma P. Agrawal, Professor, University of Cincinnati, US delivering a keynote address on ‘Introduction to IoT, ’ and Dr. Upendranath Chakravarthy, Professor, and University of Texas, US, speaking on ‘Analyzing Big Data Analytics Research and Its Progress.’
Day one of the conference also saw the presentation of 66 research papers selected from among 150-plus submissions post a rigorous peer review process. 26 posters were also selected from among forty-plus, submitted. These were submitted by scholars and researches from across the country. An Abstract book of the conference was also released on the occasion.
