CHANDIGARH: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab president and Parliamentarian Bhagwant Mann has expressed his deep shock over the commission of suicide by 5th member of a family of Bhotna village under Barnala district due to debt, saying that the untimely death of the young Lovepreet Singh (23) was a tight slap on the so-called loan waiver being tom-tommed by the Captain Amarinder Singh government.

In a statement issued from party headquarters on Wednesday, Bhagwant Mann said that young Lovepreet's untimely demise had exposed the Captain government’s loan waiver program being touted to be its biggest achievement, adding that Capt Amarinder Singh, who lied on loan waiver by splurging millions of rupees on advertisements in newspapers and television thus draining out the public exchequer.  Mann demanded the Punjab Government should issue a list of the farmers who were allowed loan waiver.

Mann added that the day when Lovepreet's father committed suicide under debt stress, the Captain government was holding a debt waiver program at Mansa. The AAP chief said that the aggrieved family owned 13 acres of land, which was left with barely 13 kanals due to the anti-farmer policies of the government, adding that young and fifth member of the family was forced to commit suicide.

Mann has demanded a special session of Vidhan Sabha on the agrarian crisis and unending suicides by farmers and farm hands in the state, adding that Capt. Amarinder Singh needed to show a semblance of seriousness on the spate of suicides being committed by them (farmers). He held the Shiromani Akali and the Modi government at the Center equally responsible for the sorry state of affairs.
