Punjab & Sind Bank Delhi ienter Surjit Hockey semis

Former champions Punjab and Sind Bank Delhi entered the semi-finals with better goal average from Indian Railways in the 36th Indian Oil Servo Surjit Hockey Tournament at Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium in Jalandhar tonight.

Punjab and Sind Bank drew with Indian Railways by 3-3. Both teams bagged three points from three matches but with better goal average Punjab and Sind Bank advanced into semis.

In semi-finals Army XI will face Punjab and Sind Bank Delhi and in second semi finals Indian Oil will take on Punjab Police. The semi finals will be live telecast by PTC News.

In Pool B ‘s last league match Indian Railways and Punjab & Sind Bank played fast hockey. In the fourth minute Indian Railways took lead from the field goal by Pardeep Singh Sandhu (1-0). In 27th minute Railways consolidated with field goal by Kujun Topno (2-0).

At half time Indian Railways was leading by 2-0. In 33rd minute Bank bounce back their Jaskaran Singh sounded the board to reduce the margin (1-2). In 49th minute Bank’s Satbir Singh scored the equalizer from the pass of Gautampal Singh (2-2). In 51st minute Railways once again took lead when Pardeep Singh Sandhu netted the ball (3-2). In 57th minute Bank equalized with field goal of Harmanjit Singh (3-3).

With this draw both teams earned one point each. Bank bagged three points from three outings and Railways also have three points from three outings. But on better goal average Punjab and Sind Bank entered the semi finals. Punjab and Sind Bank scored seven goals and conceded seven. Railways have six in favour and six against.

In the last league match of Pool A ONGC Delhi and Indian Navy Mumbai locked at 2-2. ONGC took lead in 22nd minute with penalty corner conversion by Jagwant Singh (1-0). In 30th and 36th minutes Indian Navy’s Pawan Rajbhar scored two goals in a row to get lead (2-1). In 41st minute ONGC’s Amanpreet Singh equalized (2-2).

With this win both teams earned one point each. After league matches both teams have two points and both teams are out from semi-finals.
