Punjab CEO holds meeting with political parties for special summary revision of electoral rolls

CHANDIGARH: The Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab Dr. S. Karuna Raju today held meeting with representatives of various political parties for the Special Summary Revision of Photo Electoral Rolls, The meeting was attended by the representatives of Nationalist Congress party, Punjab State Communist Party of India, Shiromani Akali Dal, bahujan samaj Party,   Communist Party of India (Marxist) and Trinamool Congress.

Addressing the meeting, Dr. Raju informed that final publication of electoral rolls will be done in the first week of January. "During this campaign, the main focus will be on removal of repeat/multiple entries/demographically similar entries and removal of entries of permanently shifted electors and deceased electors from electoral rolls", he said, adding that the political parties were asked to  appoint Booth Level Agents (BLAs).

He further said that to improve the health of electoral roll, the Electors Verification Programme (EVP) and House to House verification by BLOS will be carried out before starting the revision activities .The EVP activity will start from August 16 to August 30, 2019.

He said that the elector can also furnish the details of his/her family members and verify their entries, information of eligible un-enrolled family members (born on 01.01.2001) and prospective electors born between (02.01.2002 till 01.01.2003) who are residing with the elector. In case any correction in the demographically details, the elector can also submit the required form.

Divulging more, he said that the elector can also furnish the GIS coordinates of his house and his Observation on existing Polling Station and suggestion on alternate polling Station.  Booth Level Officers will verify the information /details collected from the citizen and will also collect the information/details of un- enrolled/dead/shifted electors. The BLOs would visit house to house from September 1st to September 30, 2019 for this purpose. The Integrated draft electoral roll would be published on October 15, 2019 w.r.t 01.01.2020 as qualifying date.The Claims and objections would be taken from October 15, 2019 to October 30, 2019 and disposal of claims will be done on December 15, 2019.

The CEO urged all the leaders to encourage people to become voters and exercise their constitutional right in voting process. He said that during this campaign name of eminent personalities from the field of art, culture, journalism, sports, judiciary, public services and Person with Disabilities will be highlighted and Flagged in Electoral Rolls.
