Gatka Coaching Camp dedicated to 550th Parkash Purab concludes at SBBS Univ Jalandhar

JALANDHAR: Five-days Gatka coaching camp dedicated to 550th Prakash Purb of Sri Guru Nanak Sahib concluded here on Thursday at Sant Baba Bhag Singh University Khiala. On the occasion Chancellor Sant Dilawar Singh Brahm Ji in presence of chief guest Sant Kapoor Singh Saneran Waley, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Jatinder Singh Bal and President of National Gatka Association of India Harjeet Singh Grewal distributed t-shirts and certificates to the participants.

Speaking on the occasion, Sant Dilawar Singh elaborated the dire need to promote this martial art inherited by our revered Gurus. He said Gatka academy established at the university would promote this game further in the nearby villages so as to keep away the children from drug abuse and encourage them to follow the teachings of Gurbani.

Vice-Chancellor Dr. Bal informed about the achievements obtained by university in the field of academics and sports and added that university would pay more attention to the sports so that students could excel in education and sports as well. University sports director Dr. Pritam Singh briefed about the achievements of university in Gatka.

Addressing the gathering, president of National Gatka Association of India (NGAI) Harjeet Singh Grewal State Awardee discussed the 'vision document-2030', a draft plan to include the Gatka in Olympics, and added that efforts are being made to make Gatka internationally popular. "Under the digitalization project, NGAI has procured digital score board and four synthetic grounds to bring more transparency in this game. Besides this, fiber sticks would soon be replaced in this game with wooden sticks", said Gatka promoter Grewal.

Among others present on the occasion included university educational trust vice president Kewal Singh, president sports committee Parmjit Singh, Narinder Kaur Coach Sports Authority of India, NGAI General Secretary Harjinder Kumar, Vice President Avtar Singh, Finance Secretary of ISMAA Baljit Singh, Prabhjot Singh, Gurdial Singh Bhularai coaches and instructors of all three Gatka Academies were also present.
