AMRITSAR: The dance and festivity marked the `Savan Celebrations’ (Tiyaan) at Khalsa College for Women (KCW) here today. The students, carrying the tri-colour, the national flag in hands resorted to the traditional dance as the celebrations of Tiyaan and Independence day intermingled.

``As the independence day is also approaching, the students are double-enthusiast to celebrate Tiyaan along with the August 15", said Principal Manpreet Kaur. The students meanwhile wearing the traditional costumes resorted to musical presentations.

Clad in colourful Punjabi dresses recited Bolian’ (verses from folk music) and performed `Gidda’ to welcome the month of Savana associated with the good times and festivity. The Principal and staff termed the festival as `celebration of women power.

Tejinder Kaur Chhina, the chief guest at the program said Tiyaan festival is being celebrated only days before the Independence days so that festivity is virtually doubled. She said that the festival is traditionally celebrated in Punjab during the month of rain and hoped that traditional festivals like these remind us of the great culture and traditional times which the younger generation is forgetting.

``This is the perhaps only festival which is meant entirely for girls’’, said Manpreet adding they were happy that the girls with active guidance of their teachers organized such an extravaganza meticulously.
