Education sector also need a financial package for revival: PUCA

MOHALI: A delegation of Punjab Unaided Colleges Association (PUCA) under the leadership of President, Dr. Anshu Kataria, met Sh. Anurag Singh Thakur, Union Minister of State for Finance & Corporate Affairs at New Delhi.

Kataria made Anurag Thakur aware about the financial Problems being faced by the small Unaided Colleges of the Country. Kataria further said that if the pending scholarship would not be disbursed then the colleges would be in biggest ever financial trouble and would not be able to survive.

Kataria added that though Education sector is the prime responsibility of Government and crores of investment has been made by the Government on educational Institutions in the Country but still 90% education is under private sectors. Govt is not looking at the problems being faced by these institutes as a result of which these are at the verge of closure. Kataria said that this sector requires fresh impetus of reforms.

Sh. Amit Sharma, Senior Vice President, PUCA said that there is a delay of over 3 years in the disbursement of Centrally sponsored Post Matric Scholarship Scheme for SC & ST etc. while the Unaided Colleges when doesn't pay their bank loan Dues for 3 months, they are declared as NPA's and Banks start taking legal action against the Colleges/Trusts.

Sharma further said that on the pattern of Auto industries, Food Processing industries, Pharma industries etc Education Sector also need Govt’s booster dose for its upliftment.
