CHANDIGARH: Reacting sharply on the reports of goons patronized by political leaders collecting ‘Goonda Tax’ from the contractor engaged in constructing 4.5 km-long Sri Kartarpur Sahib corridor, the Aam Aadmi Party MLA from Sunam, Aman Arora on Friday criticized the present Capt. Amarinder Singh led Congress govt for patronizing the sand mafia in state.

He said that due to the political interference the sufficient material is not being provided to the construction company that is leading to the delay in completion of project. He said on the one hand Pakistan has nearly completed the project on its side before the deadline of October 31 but the Congress and Akali leaders for their lust of money are halting the work to be completed before the 550th birth anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

Arora said as per the representative of Ludhiana-based firm, Ceigall India Limited that is engaged in construction work the shortage of material has lead to difficulty in managing the things and they are trying to do with whatever resources are available. He said a number of groups with political backing at various points near the riverbeds demand ‘Goonda Tax’ that is annoying and hard to manage.

Criticizing the move of Congress leaders, Arora said that they have surpassed the Akali leaders who were infamous for their act of looting the religious institution. He said that due to the lust of political leaders, the sand prices have already skyrocketed, adversely impacting the demand. A lot of contractors have stopped working with the govt. due to the unnecessary interference of political leaders.

Demanding a probe in the case and seeking action against the political leaders involved in illegal collection of ‘Goonda Tax’ at Sri Kartarpur Sahib, Arora demanded that Capt. Amarinder Singh must look into the matter at earliest. He said if the state government does not take any action to abolish ‘goonda tax’ the contractors will not be able to buy gravel. He demanded that the politicians engaged in the illegal activity should be put behind bar.

Arora said that in case  completion of the Corridor project gets delayed  due to non availability of aggregate , then Capt. Amrinder Singh Govt.  should be held responsible for letting loose the mining mafia under the patronage of political leaders.
