550th parkash purab celebrations:Team of young volunteers win hearts of devotes

CHANDIGARH/SULTANPUR LODHI:In view of 550th Parkash Purab celebrations, hundreds of young volunteers have been deputed in several duties, which they are performing with devotion, dedication and humility. Dressed in “kesri” coloured kurta’s, these volunteers are helping the devotees, who have come from across the globe to participate in ongoing mega celebrations.
The Punjab government’s Tourism and Cultural Affairs Department have deputed more than 800 volunteers from different educational institutions and other organisations, have been deputed at help desk, main pandal, light & sound show, religious exhibition, main entries etc.
Mr Naveen, Deputy Manager of Inter Committee that has been set up for this purpose, informed that hundreds of volunteers have been performing duties in the ongoing 550th Parkash Purab celebrations. These volunteers have been guiding the devotees at railway station, bus stand, parking sites in Sultanpur Lodhi, pandal’s of functions, tent cities, media centre, administrative blocks, exhibitions etc.
He further informed that a total of 7 committees have been formed for smooth conduct of celebrations. These committees include the Information Desk Committee, protocol committee, Inter Committee, Pandal Management Committee, Trained Guide committee, Light & Sound Show committee and Exhibition Committee. He said that the managers of these committees are ensuring that the devotees do not face any problems.
Mr Gurbaksh Singh, Deputy Manager of Information Desk committee, informed that around 150 volunteers have been deputed on a total of 25 help desks, that have been set up to facilitate the devotees. He informed that the help desk volunteers are performing duties in two shifts (day and night). The help desks have been set up near main pandal, all parkings and other important places, besides two such help desks have been set up at Railway Station, while one at Bus Stand. Apart from this, around 100 trained guide volunteers have been deputed on 11 routes.
Mr Tarsveer Singh, Senior Manager of main pandal committee, informed that around 50 volunteers have been deputed in main pandal Guru Nanak Darbar.
Volunteer named Mohd Yasin, who basically hails from Bihar and has been deputed near the entrance of main pandal, informed that he is a student of B.Tech at Lovely Professional University. He informed that he feels privileged to perform duty during the ongoing 550th Parkash Purab celebrations of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Another volunteer named Sumit Kumar, who hails from West Bengal, informed that he is a student of Computer Science Engineering at Lovely Professional University, stated that it is for the first time that he is performing duty at an event of such grand scale. He said that he has learnt several things about the teachings of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
Harbans Kaur (65), who is attending the celebrations from Delhi, expressed happiness about the humility with which the volunteers are performing duties and guiding the devotees.
