IMA decides to observe 'National Protest Day' on June 14

PHAGWARA: Taking serious note of the rise in incidents of gruesome violence against the medical professionals as well as medical institutions, the Indian Medical Association has decided to observe " National Protest Day" on June 14.

Giving details IMA Phagwara President Dr Rajan said here today that the doctors would wear black badges, hold dharnas in front of the offices of the Deputy Commissioners at district head quarters and SDM offices at sub divisional head quarters from 10 a.m. to 12 noon and submit memorandums to Deputy Commissioners and SDMs for forwarding the same to the Prime Minister.
He said, the memorandums would also be email to the Prime Minister and Home Minister to raise the urgency of stern laws to check such incidents..
While terming the recent incident of violence at NRS Medical College Kolkata as barbaric, IMA members Dr S Mahindra, SPS Sooch, Satnam Singh Parmar, Jasjit Virk, Dr Puneet Galhotra, Dr Saroch, Dr Ranjeet Singh Nagpal, Dr Rajeev Gupta, said that Dr. Paribaha Mukharjee had been brutally attacked.
They said  that national level IMA office-bearers are  keeping in touch with the civil and police administration due to which four culprits had already been brought to book.
The " National Protest Day" is being observed to build pressure on the centre and the state governments for enacting stern laws as well as to ensure implementation at the cutting edge level to protect the medical fraternity and the medical institutions from such incidents in future so that the medical fraternity could serve the society without any fear, said IMA President Dr Rajan.
