Free retina surgeries started at Guru ka langar hospital

CHANDIGARH: Guru Ka Langar Eye Hospital Sector 18-B has started free retina surgeries from today. It was inaugurated by Punjab Health Minister Braham Mohindra.

Run by Guru Granth Sahib Sewa Society, the hospital has been performing free cataract surgeries since 2006. Since Feb 12, 2018, 28000 patients have been checked in OPD and 1850 cataract surgeries have been performed.

Now, the hospital has extended its free services to retina dept and started medical retina and surgery retina. They have latest equipment for retina surgeries worth Rs 1.5 crore donated by retina surgeron Dr Harinderjit Singh from USA. Retina surgeries will be done by renowned eye surgeon of North India Dr Balbir Khan.

Ten retina surgeries will be performed on every Tuesday. Each surgery costs 40-50k in market. The hospital is providing free boarding and lodging facilities to patients. Not only this, they also pay for the travel expenses of poor patients and their attendants, no matter which part of the country they come from.

Braham Mohiandra appriciated the initiative and extended full support and cooperation to the organisation and promised help of Rs 2 lakh.
