CHANDIGARH: Amardeep singh cheema, Chairman - Punjab Health Systems Corporation has welcomed the provision of 2 new medical colleges in Gurdaspur and Pathankot in the Punjab Govt. Budget presented in Vidhan Sabha on 18th Feb 2019.

Thanking Brahm Mohindra Minister for Health and family welfare Punjab Cheema said this is his convincing efforts with Chief Minister Punjab resulted in to sanctioning of 2 new Medical Colleges in PPP Mode in the border belt which was a long pending demand of the area.

Cheema who has been campaigning for this with State to Centre Govt. for more than a decade seeking better Health facilities in Border belt which has least developed Health infrastructure due to close proximity to international border and the existing Health services are also burdened by spill over of critical and emergency patients from neighboring Himachal Pradesh and J&K.

It is pertinent to mention this became a hot issue during the recent visit of Prime Minister Modi to Gurdaspur on 3rd January when AIIMS type institute was expected to be announced but on his return to Delhi Mr.Modi announced 2 AIIMS institutes for J&K with more than Rs/- 3600 Crore allocation and projected OPD (Out Patient Department) footfalls of 1500 on completion in 6 years which will not be comparable with 1100 OPD of just one Pathankot Belt Public Health Institutions.

These 2 Medical Colleges will have 500 Beded Facility apart from 100 MBBS Seats each. This will be a Game Changer Activity in the Border Belt and will boost future Religious / Medical Tourism to Amritsar Gurdaspur Belt.
