KMV Celebrates National Pi Day

JALANDHAR: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya- the Heritage & Autonomous Institution, Jalandhar's PG Department of Mathematics organized Mathematical Rangoli Competition on the theme "Application of Irrational Number Pi in real life situations" to celebrate National Pi Day. A total of 100 students of undergraduate and postgraduate classes of mathematics participated in this competition. The students designed beautiful rangoli with mathematical concepts like the area of the semi-circle, cylinder and cone using pi, the discovery of pi, application of pi in DNA, space and in Computer Science. It is important to mention that pi is the symbol used in Mathematics to represent a mathematical constant- the ratio of the circumference to its diameter, the value of which is approximately 3.14159 and this number resembles with the date 3/14 in month/day format. It is an annual opportunity for math enthusiasts to recite the infinite digits of Pi. Principal Prof.(Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi lauded the students for their innovative ideas in making mathematical rangoli and exploring the world outside the classroom. She also congratulated the department for organizing this event to celebrate the National Pi Day. She averred that such initiatives go a long way in creating interest for the subject in young and vibrant minds. She also congratulated all the winners in the competition. The results were as follows:
First Prize- Komal, Simran and Priya from M.Sc. Math (Sem-IV)

Second Prize- Pallavi, Sukhbir Kaur and Pooja from M.Sc. Math (Sem II)

Second Prize- Pinky, Mandeep Kaur and Diksha from M.Sc. Math (Sem II)

Third Prize- Nitasha, Parneet and Sandeep from B.Sc. NM (Sem VI)

Consolation Prize- Manpreet, Anu and Anjali from M.Sc. Math (Sem-IV)

Divya, Jaspreet Kaur and Ekamjit Kaur from M.Sc. Math (Sem-IV)
