NEW DELHI:Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management (LBSIM) in association with National Commission for Women organized a National Seminar on Role of Women in Environmental Sustainability at their Dwarka campus. The aim of the seminar was to emphasize on the role women in environmental sustainability. Environmentalist and social activist Padma Bhushan Chandi Prasad, Ms. Chandramukhi Devi, member of NCW and Dr. Rajulben L. Desai member of NCW were present as guest speakers.

In the seminar, the integral relationship between women and environment was discussed, as women rely on or are direct users of natural resources. In the areas of energy and agriculture, women shoulder the lion’s share of work in most of the world’s food production. Women are the one who the first stand for environmental defense and play an important role in environmental sustainability movements as innovators, educators, experts and leaders at all respective levels. The ‘Chipko Movement’ is one of such examples of the peaceful but assertive role of women in protecting flora and fauna. There are many such movements which are known for women’s role in sustaining and protecting the environment.

The seminar was inaugurated by renowned environmentalist and social activist Padma Bhushan, Chandi Prasad Bhatt. In his inaugural address he said women are emotionally attached to the environment, they protect it fiercely because they are the one who get directly affected by any changes in environment. Women could truly create a difference, as whatever work they take in hand, is taken to completion.”

Chandramukhi Devi said “women and environment are interconnected, and their  interdependence has endured through the ages” Diseases like cancer have become commonplace because of impurities in our food and environment. We have polluted the environment so it’s our duty to clean it.”

While concluding the seminar Adarsh Shastri, Member, Board of Governors, LBSIM said “women are the change makers. Whatever change has happened anywhere in the world, has happened due to women.”
