CHANDIGARH: After having lost trust of Sikh community in wake of getting support of Dera Sacha Sauda in Punjab elections, the Badal family understood to have taken conscience decision to keep off the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC).
Badals, the most hated family among the Sikhs around the globe and particularly the Sikhs in Punjab were fearing backlash of their decision to get support of Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmit Ram Rahim Singh who has been excommunicated from Sikh Panth. Badals had earlier secured a clean chit from Akal Takht for the dera chief but reversed the election after strong protests by Sikhs.
The Delhi Sikhs who are dedicated to their religion more than anybody else would have voted decisively against the SAD if Badal had shown their face in the Delhi. The DSGMC president Manjit Singh GK had opposed SAD decision to get dera support only after Punjab elections were over and it is believed that his opposition was part of SAD strategy to safeguard its Delhi vote bank. The stand taken by Manjit Singh GK and DSGMC secretary Manjinder Sirsa is useless in the light of fact that both these leaders were part of SAD core team in Punjab. Sirsa was appointed Officer on Special Duty(OSD) to SAD President and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal for managing media for assembly elections.
Badal family was earlier accused of committing sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib to create communal rife in Punjab and blame it on Aam Aadmi Party(AAP). Unfortunately, the SAD strategy to polarize Sikhs voters in its favour bounced back and Sikhs denounced the actions of Badal family. The sacrilege incidents at about 95 places had hurt the incidents of Sikhs all over the world. Sukhbir Singh Badal who was home minister and de facto Chief Minister had failed to arrest even single accused. One woman who was identified as accused by police was shot dead by unidentified killers, probably to hide the real culprits.
Even the bomb blast in Maur Mandi in which three children were killed was suspected to be handiwork of SAD or Congress to defame AAP. Police has failed to arrest any accused in this case too. After the blast both SAD and Congress had in one voice blamed AAP for having links with radical Sikhs and warned people of return of militancy. This was also the line taken by PM Narender Modi during his election meeting in Punjab.
Delhi Sikhs are expected to vote against Badals even though they are keeping themselves out of scene. Presently whole Badal family is in USA and they are expected to return after Delhi Gurdwara elections are over.
