Zambian I-Day celebrated at Rayat Bahra Varsity

MOHALI: H Sikapale Chinzewe, Deputy High Commissioner of the Republic of Zambia, here today congratulated Zambian students studying in various educational institutions in India on the Independence Day of Zambia.

Addressing a grand function organised by the Rayat Bahra University, H Sikapale Chinzewe on this occasion, he said on this day in 1964, the British colony of Northern Rhodesia became the independent Republic of Zambia, after decades of nationalist struggle. For two days, including October 24, celebrations and parades are held all over Zambia, but the most elaborate are in the capital city of Lusaka.

Addressing students from different universities who had assembled at the Rayat Bahra University he called upon students to put in their best both in academics and extracurricular activities to achieve excellence in life.

H Sikapale Chinzewe had a word of praise for the commendable services that the Rayat Bahra University was rendering in the field of education. He said that the university had carved a niche for itself in the world of academics.

Students from Lovely Professional University, CT Group of Institutions, CT University, Institute of Engineering and Technology, Bhaddal, Chandigarh University, and Maharishi Markandeshwar University, Mullana, participated in the event.

The diplomat honoured students who have excelled in different courses including engineering, management, computers, and other streams, said that it was nice to interact with the faculty and the students.

On this occasion Deputy high commissioner of the Republic of Zambia presented a special prize to the Rayat Bahra University for its outstanding performance in the field of education and placement of students passing out from the university.

The visiting diplomat had a brief interaction with the faculty members and the representatives of the Rayat Bahra University.

Earlier, on his arrival at the campus the diplomat was accorded a warm and affectionate welcome by Gurvinder Singh Bahra, Chairman of the Rayat Bahra Group of Institutions and Chancellor of the Rayat Bahra University.

Dr Daljit Singh, Vice-Chancellor of the RBU, said that it was a pleasure to have H Sikapale Chinzewe as chief guest at the function. The visiting dignitary was taken round the different schools located on the sprawling campus of the Rayat Bahra University and he was impressed with the infrastructure available for the students.
