Media body condemns Chandigarh police for using water cannons on press photographers

CHANDIGARH: Punjab and Chandigarh Journalist Union has condemned the Chandigarh police for the concious action of using water cannons on the Journalists and Photo Journalists.
It is to be mentioned that Jasbir Singh Malli of Indian Express and Sanjay Kurl of Punjab Kesari got serious injuries due to the water cannons action taken by the police during a political party protest.
The State President of the Union Balwinder Jammu , the President of  Chandigarh Unit of PCJU Jai Singh Chhibber and Patron of Chandigarh Unit Trilochan Singh said that the police consciously turn the direction of water cannons on the media persons  covering protests staged and dharnas called by various  political parties and organisations so that the police action could not be telecast or broadcast to the public.
The leaders further said that the Union would seriously take up the issue and a legal advice would also be considered on the matter. The General Secretary of the Chandigarh Unit of the Union Bindu Singh informed that the issue would also be placed before the Press Council of India soon.
