Students exchange and faculty development programme begins at PU

CHANDIGARH: A four days students exchange programme and five days faculty development programme started here today at Dr. Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar University Institute of Chemical Engineering & Technology, Panjab University Chandigarh under twinning arrangement and  sponsored by TEQIP-III project grant.

The “Students Exchange Programme (SEP)” will be held from 11th March to 14th March 2019 and Faculty Development Program (FDP) on “Innovative Approaches in Teaching and Research” for faculty and research scholars from March 11 to March 15, 2019. About 50 students from DUIET Dibrugarh, Assam and Dr. SSB UICET are participating in this students exchange programme and about 55 participants have registered for the faculty development programme.

Inaugural session of the SEP and FDP the Chief Guest Prof S S Pattnaik, Director NITTTR, Chandigarh emphasized on the need of such Mentor-mentee collaborative faculty development programmes to enhance the teaching skills and research aptitude of the faculty and research scholars. He also appreciated the initiative of the Institute to organize four days student exchange programme in twining arrangement with DUIET Dibrugrah during his keynote talk Prof. Pattnaik elaborated upon the use of digital pedagogy and explained the Industry 4.0 theme i.e. fourth industrial revolution. He emphasized on the current trend of automation and data exchange in manufacturing technologies, cyber-physical systems, the Internet of things, cloud computing and cognitive computing.

Jagdeep Sidhu OSD to CM, Punjab in his address elaborated upon the dual need of faculty training and skill development in young faculty and students. He emphasized on entrepreneurship and self development need for youth through such programmes and initiation of start-ups ventures. He pointed that the institute’s proposed student development programme activities will really enhance the skills of participating students as well as impart them with requisite placement preparation and industrial know-how.

About 15 eminent experts from industry and academia will be delivering their expert talks in this four days students exchange programme and about 20 eminent experts will be deliberating upon different aspects of teaching and research methodologies. These events will be highly useful for the students, faculty and research scholars of the participating institutes.
