Punjab Government gives big relief to Unaided Colleges

CHANDIGARH: A meeting of Joint Action Committee (JAC) of 14 associations representing over 1600 Unaided colleges of Punjab was today held with the Punjab Govt at CM’s Residence, Chandigarh.

On behalf of Chief Minister the meeting was chaired by Hon’ble Minister for Social Welfare, S. Sadhu Singh Dharamsot. On the other hand, the delegation of Joint Action Committee was led by Chairman JAC Sh. Ashwani Sekheri.

Govt. officials including Sh. SK Sandhu, additional chief secretary (higher education and languages); Shri. Anirudh Tiwari, Principal Secretary, Finance; R Venkatratnam, Principal secretary, social welfare; Sh. D.K. Tiwari, Principal Secretary, Technical Education; Shri. Parveen Kumar Thind, Special Secretary-cum-Director, Technical Education and Industrial Training; S. Malwinder Singh Jaggi Director, Welfare; etc were also present during the meeting.

323 crore will be released:

Dr. Anshu Kataria, Spokesman, JAC said that Punjab Govt today gave a big sigh of relief to the Colleges by assuring to release 323 Crore soon. Govt assured that they would disburse 323 crore as soon as they would receive the funds from Centre Govt. The Punjab would submit the Utility Certificate to the Centre to get more funds.

Fees Fixation Committee:

In the previous Govt, the fees under ITI, B.Ed, ETT, Nursing etc was very negligible due to which the Colleges were avoiding admissions under these courses. Govt assured the Colleges in today’s meeting to immediate form a committee and to fix the fees for unaided colleges for such courses.

Drop out students:

Giving big sigh of relief, the Govt assured JAC that colleges would get fees for the duration for which the student has studied in the particular course. As per previous policy if any student leaves the course during his study, his previous disbursed tuition fees was deduced from the college claim for PMS Funds.

Charanjit Singh Walia, President, Nursing Association; Mr. Nirmal Singh from ETT Federation; Mr. Jasnik Singh, B.Ed. Association, PU; Dr. Satwinder Sandhu,B.Ed Association GNDU Colleges; S. Gurmeet Singh Dhaliwal, Chairman, Academic Advisory Forum (AAF); S. Rajinder Singh Dhanoa from Association of Polytechnic Colleges; S. Sukhmander Singh Chatha, Punjab Unaided Degree Colleges Association(PUDCA); Mr. Simanshu Gupta, ITI Association; Mr. Vipin Sharma etc were also present during the meeting.
