Nurture judicial temperament, exhorts expert

MOHALI: In the present legal scenario in India, judicial temperament, psychology, mind and culture should be inculcated in young budding lawyers. This was the observation made by Prof (Dr) Balram K Gupta, Director (Academics), Chandigarh Judicial Academy, Chandigarh, and a former Director, National Judicial Academy, Bhopal, here today.

He was addressing the faculty members and students of University School of Law, Rayat-Bahra University as the key note speaker on “Legal Education: A Challenge”. Prof (Dr) Daljit Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Rayat-Bahra University, Prof (Dr) Balram Dogra, Dean, Academic Affairs, and Prof (Dr) MS Bains, Dean, University School of Law, Rayat-Bahra University, presided over the academic event.

Prof (Dr) Daljit Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Rayat-Bahra University, emphasized the role that legal luminaries could play in the making of successful professionals be it a lawyer or a socially sensitive Judge. Prof (Dr) Balram K Gupta is one such luminary who has enlightened countless students who are treading the path of academic excellence.

Prof (Dr) Balram K Gupta, in his expert talk highlighted the importance of right judicial temperament and judicial psychology in achieving heights in judicial career. Prof Gupta emphasized on judges being the engineers of justice rather than engineers of power. He also touched upon the role of teachers in shaping careers of young budding lawyers.

The keynote address was followed by an interactive session between the keynote speaker and the audience.

Prof (Dr) MS Bains, Dean, University School of Law, Rayat-Bahra University, proposed a vote of thanks. The efforts of the Dr Sonia Grewal  Mahal, faculty members along with student volunteers were highly appreciated.
