More than 200 Students Awarded Degrees at SGTB College Convocation

AMRITSAR: At least 200 girl students from various under-graduate classes were awarded degrees and 50 others meritorious students were bestowed with gold medals during the annual Convocation at Sri Guru Teg Bahadur College (SGTB) College for Women today. The Convocation was presided over by Khalsa College Governing Council Honorary Secretary Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina who stressed on the dire need of women education for a civilized society.

"To create an educated society, the focus has to be on the women education, said Chhina adding that there is a ray of hope the way the girls are taking up the challenge of adopting the vocations which were earlier considered to be the `filed of men'. ``Girls today are joining forces and protecting borders in the BSF. There is no area where the girls are not venturing out", said Chhina.

In his presidential address, he advised the girls to be financially independent in life to get their rightful and honorable place in the society. College Principal Nanak Singh read the Annual progress report citing their achievements in academics, cultural activities and sports. He said that under the able leadership of KCGC management, the college was progressing leaps and bounds and new infrastructural development has put the college in the forefront in education field. The faculty, staff and students in large number were present.
