Athletic meet organised at KCET

AMRITSAR: To instill the spirit of sportsmanship and to enhance the physical fitness and social skills, the 6th Annual Athletic Meet was held at Khalsa College of Engineering and Technology (KCET), here. The meet was dedicated to the 550th Parkash Purab of Guru Nanak’ Dev Ji and the function got off to a spectacular start with flag hoisting and releasing of colourful balloons into the air.

Khalsa College Governing Council honourary secretary RMS Chhina who was the chief guest on the occasion lauded the efforts of the students and the faculty for organising the annual meet. He said that the management is always keen to promote sports by providing world class infrastructure including hostels and playgrounds.

The number of races included 100 mt, 200 mt, 500 mt, long jump, shot put and tug of war for different categories for students. More than 600 students of KCET and KCMT participated with full enthusiasm and zeal in this grand sports fest. Not only students but faculty and staff of the college also participated enthusiastically in 100mts which was arranged for both male and female faculty and three legged race for female faculty members.

Mandeep Kaur of B. Sc. Agriculture, Sem 6th was declared as best athlete among girls and Amritpal Singh of B. Sc. Agriculture, Sem 6th was best athlete among boys. Tug of war was won by Computer Science and Engineering Department amongst girls and students of Khalsa College of Management and Technology amongst boys.

Girl students also mesmerized the audience with their energetic and colourful Bhangra performance.

Principal Dr. Majnu Bala, Director of College stressed on the importance of sports for overall personality development of the students. She also emphasized that sports is not just for fun, rather it helps to build one’s self esteem, self confidence, patience and spirit of team work in order to become most accomplished person. She also motivated students “not to quit” in any situation and keep making the progress to achieve their goals.

Dr. Mohinder Sangita (Dean Academics), Dr. Harkaran Singh (Registrar), Er. R S Mahal (Head, Mechanical Engineering Department), Er. Kirandeep Singh (Head, Computer Science and Engineering), Er. Jaspreet Singh (Head, Electronics and Communication Engineering), Er. Sahil Verma (Head, Civil Engineering Department), Er. Gurcharan Singh (Deputy Dean Student Welfare) and Er. Bikramjit Singh (Deputy Dean Developement and Planning), Dr. Gurdial Singh, Prof. J L Rambani, Prof. Dr. Manmohan Singh and other members of the faculty were also present on the occasion. Er. Sandeep Devgan, Er. Parambir Singh and Er. Karanbir Singh were the programme coordinators.
