1976 students get degrees at Thapar Institute 32nd Convocation

PATIALA: As many as 1976 students received their degrees at the 32nd Convocation of Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Patiala held today.  

This reflects an increase of about 10 percent from last year’s figure of 1731. Interestingly, 639 girls received their degrees today. Degrees awarded includes 77 PhDs, 650 Masters of Sciences, Humanities and Management and 1249 Bachelor of Engineering/Technology degrees.

Ankush Narula was awarded the President’s Medal for the highest CGPA score. Deepanker Sachdeva was awarded the Prof. V. Rajaraman Computer Science/Engineering Award.  Raghav Gupta was awarded the S. Ranbir Singh Memorial Medal for the best all round performance and the S. Ram S. Sidhu Memorial Medal was won by Mahitosh Sharma. These awards acknowledge the outstanding achievements of TI students and demonstrate how TI inculcates and values academic excellence. Additionally, TI offers scholarships of over Rs.12 crores for deserving students.

The Chief Guest, Manpreet Singh Badal, Minister for Finance & Planning, Punjab, congratulated the students and faculty on this happy occasion. Gautam Thapar, President, TIET presided over the function and awarded medals to toppers and meritorious students. Professor Prakash Gopalan, Director, TIET gave away the degrees.

TI recognizes alumnus with demonstrated and distinguished achievements. This year, Shri. Ashok Khosla and Shri. Sunil Duggal were awarded for their outstanding contributions in the field of Engineering & Technology. Shri. Ashok Khosla, a 1977 Electrical Engineering graduate is the founder & group CEO of the Om group of companies, Singapore. Shri. Sunil Duggal, a 1983 graduate in Electrical Engineering is Vedanta’s Global CEO for Metals and Mining.

The varsity is additionally proud to have moved up in the NIRF rankings and is 20th in the engineering institutions category. TI continues to feature in the definitive Times Higher Education and QS world rankings, Times Higher Education Asia 2018, 132nd in QS BRICS university rankings 2019 and at 31st position in QS India University Rankings 2019.
